A Club Statement

PHOTO: John Piper
The Rams are sad to announce the retirement of two of the club's prominent players of the last few seasons - James 'Sunday' Sunderland &  John 'Piperton' Piper

Head coach Jason Battye explained James Sunderland's retirement, saying: "Sunday's job makes it very difficult to attend training and matches but he will be remembered for his performances in the Finals season, his call up to the England stand by list, and his impressive goal glut against Sheffield last season."

A club favourite on and off the pitch, Pipertron not only roared in the ruck, but was always on hand to run water, drive really slowly to matches and support the team and staff at every game.

Jason also commented on John's career: "Piper will be remembered for his desire to improve, his commitment to The Rams as well as his slow driving."

The reasons for his retirement are unclear but the club has asked that his privacy be respected at this time.

We wish them all the best for the future.
