The Rams overpowered AFLCNE newbies Tyne Tees Tigers in the first pre-season game of the 2014 season at the YMCA.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 16: The Huddersfield Rams kicked their season off in style with a 144 - 54 win over new-comers to the AFL Central and Northern League, Tyne Tees Tigers, at the Huddersfield YMCA - in the first of three pre-season games.

The match was punctuated by impressive performances from players new to the game, with both sides fielding new squad members following successful close-season recruitment drives.

The action came from the first whistle, with the Rams kicking a goal inside the first 15 seconds, but the Tigers settled quickly after that and became dominant in the ruck, winning almost every ball.

By the half time whistle, the Rams lead by 43, but a solid third quarter by the North East side saw the Rams score only 12 points compared to the Tiger's 23, reducing the lead to just 32 points.

Captain Matt Whiteley took the lads to one side during the third quarter break and whatever was said clearly made an impact as the Rams proceeded to score 60 unanswered points in the final quarter, taking the final score to 21.18.144 - 8.6.54.

One of the new lads, Mark Nicholson, tweeted after the match, saying: "It was awesome! Thanks for the opportunity. My legs and back are aching today though!"

The Rams next match is Birmingham Sharks at the YMCA on Sunday afternoon.
