Two members of the Huddersfield Rams were invited to a civic reception at Huddersfield Town Hall on Tuesday evening, to celebrate the Mayor of Kirklees' year in office.

The event was to thank all the clubs, community groups and societies that had invited the mayor to their functions over his tenure as the mayor.

In a speech to the amassed audience, the Sheffield-born Mayor, Councillor David Ridgeway, thanked the Rams for their hospitality in inviting him to open the AFLCE Grand Final at Lockwood Park back in 2012, as well as other events in which he had featured.

Club founder, Karl Haigh, and first season newbie, Matt Jaggar, attended the event on behalf of the squad, who continued their usual Tuesday training regime up at the YMCA Sports Club in Salendine Nook.

After the event Matt said: "It was a great experience to meet the Mayor on behalf of the Rams squad. Councillor Ridgeway was full of praise for the club and even shared his best Australian accent with Karl and myself as he welcomed guests."
